Obstruction Island

prefab

The Obstruction Island project is a great example of the benefits of prefab construction. Obstruction Island is an un-ferried island in the San Juan Islands with access only by boat. Its limited access would have meant high labor costs and long timelines using traditional construction methods. Instead the cabin was built in 8 modules in a factory under controlled conditions in about 3 months. In a single day a barge with large crane was able to set the modules from the water in a matter of hours. The house sits on a concrete and steel foundation structure that lifts it off the rocky bluff.
